Just
last week Instagram launched a user activity dashboard feature, now it is the
turn of its parent company Facebook to release the same features to measure the
time of its usage activity which is named
'Your Time On Facebook'. With this feature,
you can set a daily reminder (daily reminder) after using Facebook for a
certain period of time. You can also turn off push notifications to minimize
the tendency to peek at your cell phone.
Available duration options ranging from 15 minutes, 1 hour, to 8 hours. This
feature will record user activity, how much time has been spent to open the
Facebook application. As with the activity dashboard on Instagram, Facebook
will also record activities for the past 7 days.
This
feature can be found in the menu in the upper right corner of the user's
profile. Users can set time limits and temporarily turn off application
notifications. Dashboards from Facebook and Instagram can be used to see how
long the time spent on the platform for the past seven days and also turn off notifications.
This feature is made so users can manage themselves and how they interact on
social networks. The Facebook platform, as written by The Verge, has not
activated the activity dashboard called "Your time on Facebook", but
it is estimated that it will soon follow Instagram.
Mental
health was in the spotlight of the technology giants after a number of studies
suggested that interaction on social media had an effect on the real world and
the use of social media in a way that had a negative impact on mental health. Facebook
will display the duration of use every day for the past week, also the average
time spent on Facebook per day. Facebook also offers options for limiting duration
and notification settings. To TechCrunch, Facebook justifies being developing
the feature, but, it hasn't told when it will be launched for all users.
The
'Your Time On Facebook' feature is currently only available on the Facebook
application on Android or iOS. This menu is in the other tab section on
Facebook. Users simply access the three-line icon in the upper right corner of
the Facebook application then select the settings & privacy menu and scroll
down until they find the 'Your Time On Facebook' menu click and a graph will
appear that presents the total time spent using Facebook for the last seven
days, and several other menus like the notification settings that users can set
as needed.
Timekeeping
notifications can also be turned off for more specific uses such as Direct
Messages or creating new uploads. Similar features allegedly also being tested
on Instagram. A Twitter user with a @wongmjane account shares a screenshot of a
feature called Manage Your Time. Facebook is not the first party to pay
attention to the use of the internet on smartphones. Previously Apple had announced
the company would contribute to fighting smartphone addiction. The trick is to
include the Screen Time feature and send a notification of the time duration
report sent to iPhone and Ipad users.
Internet
addiction which is one of them because it cannot be separated from social media
lately has become a special concern by medical experts. The National Health
System in London recently announced its plans to raise funds in order to
provide assistance to people who are addicted to video games, social media, and
online pornography.
Even
though Facebook and Instagram are the same company, but the Facebook and
Instagram activity dashboards are not integrated, which means users have to
open each application to find out the time of their activities.
Apple
introduced a similar feature called Screen Time on their iOS operating system
and Google with Digital Wellness for Android 9.0 Pie, all aimed at making wise
users manage their time when accessing their cellphones. In addition to that,
the Facebook Time feature on Facebook is not yet available on the web version
of Facebook, it is not yet known when this feature will also be accessible via
the web version. To try out the newest feature of Facebook, users must update
the Facebook application on both Android and iOS to the latest version.
