After
the end of 2017 yesterday, Xiaomi gave one of its superior products Redmi 5A as
an entry-class smartphone that is difficult to be challenged by other similar
products, soon it released a successor from Redmi 5A, namely Xiaomi Redmi 6A.
At a glance, there is almost no
significant difference when comparing the Redmi 5A with Redmi 6A, except for
the design and size of the screen used, as well as the choice of chipsets used
this time. Instead of using Snapdragon, now Xiaomi buried MediaTek Helio A22
for Xiaomi Redmi 6A. Will there be a significant difference in terms of
performance, with Xiaomi now deciding to use the Helio A22? Check out our
discussion this time for Xiaomi Redmi 6A!
Design
Not
too many changes provided by Xiaomi against the Redmi 6A compared to the
previous series. Only, the screen used for this device is indeed larger with a 5.45-inch screen resolution of 720 x 1440
pixels, with a screen to body ratio of 72.7% and a screen ratio of 18: 9.
Therefore, the screen looks more "broad" and the bezel that frames
the entire screen also looks thinner when compared to the previous series. The
main screen itself uses IPS with a density level of 295 PPI.
For
the physical button in the form of volume and power buttons (ON / OFF), it is
positioned on the right side of the smartphone. And for the left side, is the
position for the dual SIM card slot along with the microSD card slot. Just like
before, Xiaomi Redmi 6A supports three different tray slots to allow users to
pin two SIM cards and a microSD card together.
The
3.5mm audio jack is on the top side of the device, with the bottom side being
the place of the micro USB port to
recharge the battery. The main speaker is also the same as the previous series,
located at the bottom of the smartphone, just below the symbol Mi.
Specification
This
device has a MediaTek Helio A22 2.0GHz quad-core
with 12nm fabrication, large 2 GB RAM with an internal storage capacity of 16
GB which can still be added up to 256 GB with a microSD card. In contrast to
those present in the global market, the Redmi 6A has a dedicated dedication
slot for microSD, along with dual nano-SIM
cards where both can standby 4G simultaneously.
The
main camera has a 13 MP resolution with an aperture of f / 2.2 that has been
equipped with PDAF, HDR, and LED flash features, while the front camera has a 5
MP resolution that has been equipped with AI Portrait, HDR and Beautifies technology. The front camera also
has Face Unlock function as a form of device security. For complete
connectivity, Redmi 6A has supported 4G LTE with GSM band support (B2 / 3/5/8),
WCDMA (B1 / 2/5/8), TDD-LTE (B38 / 40) and FDD-LTE (B1 / 2/3/4/5/7/20/20).
Other connectivity support consists of Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Wi-Fi Direct,
hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, FM radio, and micro USB 2.0.
This
device will also have a large 3000mAh battery that is claimed to be able to
last up to more than 15 hours when used for phones
and uses MIUI 9.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Unfortunately, this Xiaomi Redmi
6A does not yet have fast charging support for faster battery recharging. The
sales package from the Redmi 6A itself is quite simple, with a micro USB cable, AC adapter, pin to open the
SIM / microSD card slot, warranty card, and
user manual.
Camera
In
terms of cameras, there seems to be a slightly significant increase when
comparing it with the previous Redmi 5A. The camera's focus is now better and is able to capture photos with
backlight without any part of the photo that is too bright or overexposure. With this focus, playing with
macro photos also looks more interesting.
It's
a bit unfortunate, the front camera still looks less neat in taking photos,
especially when the bokeh effect is turned on. But considering that the front
camera only consists of one sensor and is purely relying on camera software, at
least the photos are not bad for uploading to social media, for example
Conclusion
Comparing
it with the previous Redmi 5A series which is quite horrendous to the
affordable smartphone market at the end of 2017 yesterday, the Xiaomi Redmi 6A
certainly comes with more significant performance and feature improvements.
Although using the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset belonging to the new chipset,
Xiaomi seems to have succeeded in proving that this smartphone has a
performance that is not inferior to its predecessor.
There
are quite a lot of advantages that can be discussed about this Xiaomi Redmi 6A,
one of which includes a more contemporary screen and body design such as a thin
bezel and 18: 9 ratio, three separate trays to insert two SIM cards and a
microSD card together, and a battery capacity capable enough to support the
daily activities of its users. It's just that the quality of the camera
presented at the Redmi 6A is still quite standard and average, not too bad but
not very good either.
At
least, the results of the photos are more than enough to be able to take
moments to then upload them to social media. Another thing that is also
unfortunate is the incomplete sales package presented
and also recharging the battery which is still relatively old. Putting it
aside, with the selling price of Rp 1.3 million, Xiaomi Redmi 6A can be an
attractive alternative for those who are looking for affordable smartphones
with quite complete features and current.
